THING TAILS

Performance-installation by Clea Filippa & Beate Poikāne
1h, 2023

THING TAILS contemplates the change of meaning and function through reconfigurations with industrial-made materials and constructed encounters with nonhuman and human performers. As a hybrid format between installation and performance, it plays with temporal potentials of things - activating and negotiating roles, relations, and hierarchies between the nonhuman/human bodies. The piece becomes a living image, an exploration of shapeshifting as phenomenon, driven by the impossible attempt of escaping our human perspective. With a point of reference from 19th century symbolism in painting and litterature and their depiction of anthropomorphic characters in nature elements, the compositions of Thing Tails enact this anthropomorfic gaze to industrial, human made objects as alien, fantastical, nonsensical answers and questions to the dramaturgical quest of creating together with the agency of objects.

Our collaborative meeting oscillates in the liminality between visual art and contemporary performance. We work intuitive, assoicative and process-based, using potentials of tension and incoherence within the work as ways to unfold multiplicity and internal logics.
